Rationale: Why is this case interesting?

  • The region of the Huerta de Valencia has one of the world's most fertile soils. His feature, reflects historical and equitable system of water use for irrigation that lasts since its inception in the high Middle Ages. Valencian was developed in the Middle Ages , during the Islamic term , creating a major river infrastructure, mainly by building canals and dams, small dams, water deriving from strong avenues of Turia and ravines, swamps getting dry and carrying large irrigation fields. Thanks to this infrastructure the city of Valencia and its surroundings stocks managed to develop.
  • Currently, the future of this landscape is in jeopardy. The lack of profitability of agriculture and urban appetite puts into question its future survival. Infrastructure construction destroys valuable agricultural land, one of the most fertile in Spain, where you get up to 3 crops a year. The farmer is among the developer Juicy heel or the plundering wretched eminent domain. And in any case,it is an irreparable loss of a unique environmen.

In Addition in these lands farmers have developed the CHUFA crop, which tubers are used to make HORCHATA. This is a fresh and sweet drink, very popular in the hot days in summer. La huerta Valenciana is the unique place in the world where the HORCHATA is made

  • It is a beatiful landscape that sourrounds my hometwon also it is the result of the Valencia city development and culture. I always cycling arround the area, which is continuosly changing with the different crops. Preserving this area is essential to maintain the origens and understand the culture and traditons of region

Landscape and/or urban context of your case

  • Biogeography, cultural features, overall character, history and dynamics
  • Illustration: Map; sketches; short descriptive analyses

Analytical drawings

Please add four analytical sketches/drawings (or montages/schemes) of your case and take the following aspects into account:

  • natural dynamic versus cultural framework - in how far do these two forces come together in your case?
  • dynamic through the year (you may imagine how the site looks in spring and summer, maybe you also remember it)
  • highlight potentials and problems

Projective drawings

  • Please add four projective sketches/drawings (or montages/schemes) for your case and take the following aspects into account:
    • How would you like this case to change in the near future? (in 1-2 years)
    • And how could it look like in 10-15 years?

Summary and conclusion

Please summarize your case and give arguments for your projective design (approx 150 words).

You may add a series of images/photos in addition to the sketches/drawings
