Rationale: Why is this case interesting?

Nature sometimes mixes in an armonical way with urban landscapes, sometimes it's a matter of project, sometimes is spontaneous. Here we find harmony of the human constructions with nature. Landscapes can be found in every corner between two or more different elements of the urban composition, meeting together. This is just what I see when I come out from my home in the city where I'm doing my erasmus experience, and for me it's an introduction to a new way of living.

Author's perspective

From which professional background/perspective are your documenting this case?

I wanted to focus on this not typical landscape because I'm actually studying as an Erasmus student in the city of Kassel, and this is the landmark I'm always used to see every day. It's so nice to discover how nature, mixing with human products like buildings, people, structures, turns slowly into a dead landscape, when the weather changes from summer to winter. I want to discover a solution to this change, which doesn't give the right value to the entire zone of the Campus. The synergy between buildings and trees is so poethical and it doesn't have to be only a feature of spring and summer.

Landscape and/or urban context of your case

Founded in 1971, the University of Kassel is the newest university in the state of Hessen. Current enrolment is approximately 21,000 students. The University of Kassel central campus is located at Holländischer Platz on the edge of downtown Kassel. The former premises of the Henschel Company are home to the Faculties of Human Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, Architecture, Urban Planning, Landscape Planning, Economics and Management, Civil and Environmental Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The International Studies Centre, the IT Service Centre, and University of Kassel administration are also located here. The library building is the heart of the campus. It provides access to approximately 1.9 million volumes, including 30,000 current periodicals and global electronic media. The University Library is headquartered here, but special libraries are also maintained at the university’s other campuses. As a state library, the University of Kassel library is public and open to everyone in the region.
