Reflection
What are the major challenges for changing the situation?
Rapid urbanization and migration in Dhaka city already reaches the capacity. Stuck in water during rainy season is common image of this city. The amount of necessary infrastructure is very low comparing the urban growth of the city and the system of it. The amount of surface runoff is too much that it mixed with sewage system during this period. Another effect of Urbanization is filling the natural water sources such as lakes and ponds. In former time the city has lot of lakes and ponds which reserves the rain water and infiltrate. some time the lakes were connected with the river and the extra amount surface runoff could easily be transferred to the river. Similarly illegal occupancy and grabbing the land of river and lake decreases the capacity that results to short time flooding. Another important issue is the willingness of responsible authority that has a large impact on overall situation.
What could be a starting point for democractically-based change?
