  • Discussion/Intersting aspects:
    • (Heike) Is it still the current planning style today?
    • (Ellen) Does it still have impact on the city and its periphery?
    • (Aycim) Was it applied ?
    • (Itziar) One part of Madrid (east part) was planned in this style.
    • (Itziar) The case study is basically about urban and landscape planning.
    • (Heike) Case study title should be edited.
    • (Ellen) Has Madrid developed very fast? Has the landscape been destroyed?
    • (Itziar) The development is concentrated in the urban city part. There is not much about nature conservation in the city periphery

  • short presentation by participants about their suggested cross-cutting themes and joint questions
  • discussing joint questions

How may landscape architecture contribute to integration of different age groups, ethics, etc in urban fringe?

ISIN's answer? through the following question: Why do people meet? Criterias for the areas where people meet/make them meet: quality, variety and continuousness. Is there agriculture too? (Ellen) Yes, there is and there is also industrial, settlement and nature protection areas. (Isin) Are there relationship among agricultural structure and island inhabitats? How can be agriculture keept in the urban fringe?(Ellen) There is a high pressure on agricultural areas from the industrial, settlements areas in the island (Isin) What is the perception of different ages and ethic groups about open-space? How do they perceive agricultural areas? (Ellen)

How can the transformation process be connected with the landscape sub-typologies?

Aycim presented her presentation about her case study answers combined to the 2nd and 3rd questions.

How may landscape planning contribute to quality improvement?

Emel presented her answer to this question reg. the city of van. Following aspects are of importance:

  • agriculture in the urban fringe
  • agriculture as a green infrastructure element
  • green infrastructure
  • aesthetic quality
  • quality of life in rur-urben areas
  • flexibility of life styles
  • environmental quality
  • creating green links for wholeness
  • where does rural start
  • rur-urban

Emel tried to illustrate her idea in a graphic:

  • quality of life
    • rural development/
    • environmental management
    • R-urban
      • landscape planning
        • landscape planning strategies + instruments connections
        • environmental + social aspects of quality of life

further aspects:

  • agriculture: methods are not very modern in that area; need to find out more.
