Rationale: Why is this case interesting?

Tehran is the city of river valleys. Besides directing floods, these river valleys are lungs of a city which bring fresh air from mountains. Unfortunately, there is not much attention to this natural feature. Actually, in many parts of the city, they are buried or, in the best conditions, their beds are covered by non-permeable materials, under pressure in terms of extra construction and exceeding their limits. While their passing through our cities provides a great opportunity to create natural habitats with a valuable biodiversity as well as socio-economic and environmental benefits, they have just struggled to establish themselves. Although back in the history, they complained of their harsh conditions several times by heavy floods and huge damages, their potential to change into a green infrastructure and help a problematic city is still ignored. Their natural landscape with a comprehensive, intelligent design can greatly help to create a sustainable environment.
