Rationale: Why is this case interesting?

Please give a short introduction to the site you have selected (not more than 150 words)

  • Why did you select it?

Alameda Park is the most important park situated in the heart of the city, Santiago of Compostela. With an area of 8.5 ha. contains three different parks with different use , design and species. The park is situated in a soft hill. In the top there is Santa Susana´s oakwood, from s.XV; surrounding the hill there´s the Horseshoe´s Walk with fantastic views from the cathedral and finally, the Alameda Park, both of us belonging to s.XIX.

  • Is it exemplary for a specific theme or a problem?

it´s exemplary of beauty, orden and composition. It is the most central and importante green area in the city and it has wonderful sights. It´s very interesting because it contains several species, from the country or imported especies, from Asia, for example.

  • In how far does it relate to your life?

I find this place increase the quality of live of the people in the city. you can find harmony, proportions and rest. it´s a fantastic place to get relax, breathe, and talk. there´s a lot of runners inside too. I love walk trough it by afternoons, when I can take a little time for me.

Author's perspective

From which professional background/perspective are your documenting this case? The park had grown with the city and has an important social aspect in Santiago. I would like to analize its design to improve antic aspects of design that don't go ahead with actual needs of population

Landscape and/or urban context of your case

  • Biogeography, cultural features, overall character, history and dynamics
  • Illustration: Map; sketches; short descriptive analyses

Analytical drawings

Please add four analytical sketches/drawings (or montages/schemes) of your case and take the following aspects into account:

  • natural dynamic versus cultural framework - in how far do these two forces come together in your case?
  • dynamic through the year (you may imagine how the site looks in spring and summer, maybe you also remember it)
  • highlight potentials and problems

Projective drawings

  • Please add four projective sketches/drawings (or montages/schemes) for your case and take the following aspects into account:
    • How would you like this case to change in the near future? (in 1-2 years)
    • And how could it look like in 10-15 years?

Summary and conclusion

Please summarize your case and give arguments for your projective design (approx 150 words).

You may add a series of images/photos in addition to the sketches/drawings
