Rationale: Why is this case study interesting?

This case study will search for the influence of landscape architecture in the big process called 'revitalisation' of urban space. Is there a particular importance of the contributions (which landscape architecture can offer) recognized by all parties hereto? Some parts of the east quarter of Karlsruhe are (in my opimion) predestinated to determine the different roles and influences of the concerned persons, involved parties and – money.

The current use of the mentioned quarter has changed several times. Now there is a rebuild castle (destroyed in WW2) nearby a former slaughterhouse among open space and apartment buildings. Great plans were made culminating in a national garden exhibition. But due to different reasons this plans have failed or were deferred.

Landscape and/or urban context

Karlsruhe(the ancient capital of the country 'Baden_(Land)' which is now the smaller part of 'Baden-Wuerttemberg') is a young city founded in 1715. Most of its urban area is a part of the Rhine valley an because of that flat with an average height of 115 m above sea level. Only the east borderland is mountained touching the foothills of the Black Forrest and the 'Kraichgau'.
