Seminar moderators and coordinators:

Dr. Ellen Fetzer (DE) initiates and coordinates elearning activities at Nürtingen-Geislingen University in cooperation with international partners. She also works for the International Master Programme in Landscape Architecture (IMLA). Ellen is current president of the European Council of Landscape Architecture Schools and coordinates ECLAS activities with the LE:NOTRE Institute.

Alexandru Mexi (RO) is a Romanian landscape architect and PhD student at the University of Bucharest. He is studying the history of European and Romanian public parks and he is working in the field of garden heritage protection, restoration and conservation. In his home country he is coordinating a cultural project dedicated to green heritage and he is engaged in different cultural and educational programs. Alex is a member of the ECLAS Executive Committee.

Dr Kristin Faurest, Director, International Japanese Garden Training Center, Portland Japanese Garden, Portland, Oregon, US. Kristin holds a Ph.D in landscape architecture and practiced as a professor and landscape designer for 13 years prior to joining her current post. She is the author or co-author of several books, including Community Built: Art, Construction, Preservation and Place (Routledge, 2018).

Maria M Carrion, Emory University, US. Professor María M. Carrión studied Classics at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and graduated with a B. A. in Art History and Criticism from the University of Puerto Rico. She completed an M.S. in Art Education and an M.A. in Spanish from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville before completing her Ph.D. in Spanish at Yale University. She specializes in the cultural and literary production from sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Spain, with a particular focus on dramatic theory and performance, legal writings and practices, and architectural theory and history. Her most recent work has analyzed Andalusi architecture and history of science. She has also published articles and translations on the literature and culture of the Hispanic Caribbean. She has participated in conferences, symposia, colloquia, and workshops in the US, Spain, South America, Romania, and the former Yugoslavia, and her essays have been published in the US, Spain, France, and South America.

Landscape and Heritage conservation in India

Nupur Prothi Khanna, ICOMOS-IFLA International Scientific Committee on Cultural Landscapes. Nupur Prothi Khanna has two decades of experience as a Landscape Architect. With graduate and post-graduate degrees in Physical Planning and Landscape Architecture from SPA Delhi and Heritage Conservation from University of York (UK), her work through Beyond Built Pvt Ltd, a research-based design practice in Delhi, seeks to bridge these diverse interests. She was Co-Chair for the symposium on Heritage and Democracy as part of the ICOMOS General Assembly in Delhi, December 2017. She is involved in professional organisations, ICOMOS ISC Cultural landscapes, ISoCARP as Co-Chair on Climate change and Social Networks for their 2018 Congress in Bodo; IFLA as Advisory Circle member for their Landscape Congress in Singapore and IUCN as newly inducted member. Currently, she is based out of Stockholm.

Dr. Attila Tóth is a Landscape Architect working as Assistant Professor (PhD) at the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra. He studied landscape architecture, landscape & spatial planning in Slovakia (SUA Nitra) and Austria (BOKU, TU Wien). He is Board Member of the LE:NOTRE Institute and ECLAS representative of SUA Nitra. His main research interest is Green Infrastructure in Landscape Architecture and Planning. He teaches introductory design studios in the bachelor cycle and diverse design studios on public open spaces, special green spaces and rural landscapes in the master cycle.

The 19th Century: Lisbon Public Parks

Ana Duarte Rodrigues is assistant professor at the Department of History and Philosophy of Sciences of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. She is associated researcher of the Inter-university Research Center for the History of Science and Technology. She is the PI of two funded research projects: Sustainable Beauty for Algarvean Gardens: Old Knowledge to a Better Future (2015-2020) and Horto Aquam Salutarem: Water wise management in gardens in the early modern period (2018-2021). She has published in several scientific journals of the field and is the editor-in-chief of Gardens & Landscapes' journal, published by Sciendo. Among the 17 books on gardens and landscape studies, the following stand out: A Arte dos Jardins na Tratadística e na Literatura (2016) and Horticultura para Todos (2017). She has also been the curator of many exhibitions on art of gardens and participated in several outreaching activities to promote this field of knowledge.

Prof. Dr. Karl Ludwig, emeritus from Nürtingen-Geislingen University. He has been working as a landscape architect in various office in Germany and abroad before he joined Nürtingen-Geislingen University as a professor in 1991 until 2017. His teaching and research emphasis was design and garden history. Karl publishes regularly and gives lectures across Europe.

Speakers: Dr. Ulrike Krippner and profesor Lilli Lička, BOKU Vienna, Austria

Dr. Ulrike Krippner is a senior researcher at the Institute of Landscape Architecture at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences BOKU Vienna. She holds a PhD in landscape architecture and teaches landscape history at BOKU Vienna. Her research and writings concentrate on the twentieth-century history of landscape architecture, with a special focus on the history of the profession, on women in landscape architecture, and on post–World War II landscape architecture. In 2014, she curated the exhibition The 1964 Vienna International Garden Show: Green Post-War Modernism.

Lilli Lička is a professor in Landscape Architecture at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences BOKU Vienna. Her projects focus on the public realm, parks, streets, squares, housing, heritage sites, and corporate landscapes. She co-curates an online-collection on contemporary Austrian landscape architecture and heads the LArchiv Archive of Austrian Landscape Architecture. She is a member of communal and provincial design boards, national and international juries, scientific commissions and review boards. Lilli Lička was principal of koselicka 1991—2016 and opened LL-L landscape architecture in 2017.
