Thin and small forests might contain an interesting richness and be valuable for local communities; still, their value for coastal protection might be rather low. Finally, restored mangrove forests might hold a great biodiversity and meet all requirements for coastal defence, however a lack of community involvement might cause problems in the future. Restored mangrove forests need to be used in a sustainable way, to assure their future. Thus, in order to restore mangrove forests successfully, three major cornerstones should be taken into account to succeed: support biodiversity, coastal protection and community involvement.
