== Landscape and/or urban context of your case ==
*''Urban context-Dynamics
Constructed under the communist regime to prevent floodings in Bucharest, Morii Lake and the island were built over a cemetery and a church. The project had a huge impact on the area’s landscape due to demolitions and displacements of buildings and agricultural terrains left with no use, cutting down crop layers, meadows, rows of trees, isolated tress and shrubs. These actions lead to the loss of specific elements that characterize the specific landscape.
Located at the periphery of Bucharest the lake and island are somewhat hidden from the city and this lead to a complete neglect from the authorities. The area is like a puzzle composed of improvised establishments by Romani people, new residential assemblies, industrial and commercial units, abandoned arable land and green areas used as dumping places in the close proximity of the lake.

*''Overall character-Short analysis
Built in 1986 on an area of 4.2 ha, the Morii Lake Island was designed as a place of nature for the community. The design consisted of a high percentage of vegetation, with a “green belt” of Salix alba around the island’s limits and a “green core” of various Rosa species. One of the major goals in creating this area was to have diverse activities in a natural environment and for this were built two marinas, a gazebo and a flower-shaped fountain.

A short analysis of the island in present time shows several major problems regarding functional, natural and aesthetic elements: abandoned marina, vegetation in a state of degradation, broken pavement, no light system, sanitary waste, invasive vegetation so overall a complete lack of maintenance. The area is considered highly insecure and the only activity remaining is that of occasional fishing.

Inspite its’ degradation, the island remains an attraction for the people living in the neighborhood and the potential of becoming an important landmark, being the only island in Bucharest.

== What are the objectives of your design? ==

''The objective of our design is an integrated approach on both social and cultural aspects with the main goal of adding value to the historical and environmental elements of the island. Emphasizing the natural and historical potential of the site is a key factor for a sustainable development. To achieve this goal we will propose the follow development measures :

- Develop the site as a multicultural and multifunctional area for the community ( different kinds of leisure activities to respond to people's different needs, as for example, fishing, cultural activities, open air events and aquatic sports;)

- Improve the community awareness about the island landscape value and in this way address the problem about waste disposal and security;

- Improve the aesthetical image of the island by implementing maintenance and management programs to answer the specific needs;

- Enhancing the island value throw and new planting design concept;

- Use a more diverse approach in the planting design to improve the seasonal landscape change of the island;

- Use Romanian native plants in the concept to make the design more economically accessible and well adapted to the Romanian climate;

- Promoting the stratification of the vegetation to encourage a more diverse landscape and ecosystem;

- Protect and preserve the historical structures and design of the island;

- Improving the quality of life for the people in the community.''

- Improve the community awareness about the island landscape value and in this way address the problem about waste disposal and security;

- Improve the aesthetical image of the island by implementing maintenance and management programs to answer the specific needs;

- Enhancing the island value throw and new planting design concept;

- Use a more diverse approach in the planting design to improve the seasonal landscape change of the island;

- Use Romanian native plants in the concept to make the design more economically accessible and well adapted to the Romanian climate;

- Promoting the stratification of the vegetation to encourage a more diverse landscape and ecosystem;

- Protect and preserve the historical structures and design of the island;

- Improving the quality of life for the people in the community.''

== Landscape and/or urban context of your case ==
The association of the words „planting design“, for most people in Croatia, are within urban places. For example: parks, playgrounds, green open spaces in general. The aim of these places is to provide a better quality of life for the people living in cities. But what about the people who are living in villages?

However, without a rural- there wouldn’t be an urban context. They're in a reciprocal relationship. Building a designed green area in an urban setting has a counter impact on a rural one and vice versa. Residential areas tend to be developed around these causing a migration from rural areas to cities and as a result these become overcrowded, overpriced, too powerful and centralistic while at the same time villages are being left behind and emptied an the relationship between urban a rural becomes bipolar.

A solution to this problem could be to increase the focus on rural places so they become an attractive place to live at. The attention has to be directed towards the compliance of the design and the natural, cultural and historical features of the region. The immigration of people would lead to a better represented land use which would make the culture and the spirit of these places alive again as well as improve the economic situation. The fertile dolines and valleys as one of the characteristic geographical features of this region would become agricultural land again which fits into the cultural and historical features of this region, too. Metaphorically, it means, that the landscape, nature, culture and the interests of people build a little organism.

This concept could be used in every kind of village according to the natural, cultural and historical features of it. In time the gap between cities and villages would become smaller while the balance of lifestyle would become better (in cities as well as in villages), and last but not least, the „wild construction“ in the cities would slow down and decrease, so cities would become relieved and the people living there would have a higher quality of life.

[[File:543px-Ap001.jpg]]
== What are the objectives of your design? ==

Landscape architecture is a profession focused on the well-being of the people, the philosophy of this case is: improvement of quality of life of people living in cities by improving quality of life of people living in villages. People living in villages live surrounded by nature but they do not necessarily experience it. A lot of green does not make to a better quality of life nor diminishes the need of landscape design in them. Adriana Papic, part of our group lived in such a village as a child and describes it as a place “with empty houses, one street and two directions, no safety for children and no center for social contact, no paths through that nature, you could see it but could not experience it”.

That idea should be an avocation to think about it, in general, to think about other ways, other solutions for the problem of today.

== Analytical drawings ==

== Rationale: Why is this case interesting? ==

Saroornagar Lake is 387 years old lake which was created for agricultural and drinking purpose. The lake was clean until 1956, Year when Hyderabad city was announced as capital for Andhra Pradesh state population kept on increasing and the city got expanded. Till 1956 it was a lake where migratory birds and other aquatic species were living there. Years passed and the lake got polluted and species also disappeared.

In 2003-04 HMDA-Hyderabad Urban Development Authority started restoring the lake with 200 Million Inr (US$3.1 Million). After the Restoration of the lake, Migratory birds returned to lake in small numbers every year the count increased.

== Author's perspective ==
''I have done my bachelor in Civil Engineering. I have chosen Saroornagar Lake so that I can make myself comfortable to landscape architecture from Civil engineering. the water treatement and the foundation for the change of landscape architecture and the draw backs because of construction I can understand. As I was living in that area past 20 years I know a lot about that lake and the changes occurred in the lake. I can also identify the architecture work in the lake. About the park i have studied a lot and the way plants behave when the season is changed. The year wise changes occurred and the damage caused to the lake and park and the reason for the development. I have observed each and every thing.''

== Landscape and/or urban context of your case ==

In 1626, the lake was created for agricultural and drinking purposes. Spread over 99 acres (40 ha), the lake has a maximum depth of 6.1 metres (20 ft). It is one of five major water bodies in Hyderabad. After 1956 when Hyderabad became the state capital of the Andhra Pradesh, the city witnessed unprecedented population growth, industrialisation and agriculture using synthetic fertilizers and insecticides. Inevitably, untreated domestic sewage, solid waste and industrial effluents entered into the catchment area of this lake.

In 2003, the Minister of Tourism for Andhra Pradesh announced that the lake and its surroundings would be developed at a cost of 200 million(US$3.1 million). As a part of this initiative, two sewage treatment plants with the capacity to treat 250 million litres of sewage a day were to be installed. In addition to this, tourism-centric facilities such as a boating facility in the lake, a children's park and a restaurant were to be taken up. The minister also announced that all construction activity on the lake bed were to be stopped. Soon after, city's civic agency Hyderabad Urban Development Authority took up the task of cleaning up the lake.

Four years after the installation of the sewage treatment plant, the officials reported 95% of sewage being treated. With the groundwater conditions improved, migratory birds returned to the lake in big numbers. In 2007, 5 acres (2.0 ha) park was developed alongside the lake at a cost of 15 million (US$230,000). The park featured sculptures, ornamental landscape, boating facility and an environment education centre. Citizens of nearby localities such as L. B. Nagar and Vanasthalipuram welcomed this development.

After the restoration, the civic agencies have taken necessary steps that the lake does not get polluted because of the annual immersion of Ganesh idols. In addition, steps were taken to curb unauthorised construction near the lake bed. However by 2009, the filtration unit of the sewage treatment plant stopped functioning properly. As a result of this, the lake was getting polluted with domestic waste.

*''Biogeography, cultural features, overall character, history and dynamics''
* Illustration: Map; sketches; short descriptive analyses

== Analytical drawings ==
''Please add four analytical sketches/drawings (or montages/schemes) of your case and take the following aspects into account:''
* ''natural dynamic versus cultural framework - in how far do these two forces come together in your case?''
* ''dynamic through the year (you may imagine how the site looks in spring and summer, maybe you also remember it)''

</gallery>

== Projective drawings ==
* ''Please add four projective sketches/drawings (or montages/schemes) for your case and take the following aspects into account:''
** ''How would you like this case to change in the near future? (in 1-2 years)''
** ''And how could it look like in 10-15 years?''

<gallery caption="Projective Drawings " widths="150px" heights="150px" perrow="4">
</gallery>

== Summary and conclusion ==
''I conclude that
* If a park is constructed or designed. I should consider or keep in mind the population and the designe should be created.

*It should be maintained well

*There should be no space left empty.

*By keeping it non polluting, we can keep the environment also safe.

== Author's perspective ==

* If a park is constructed or designed. I should consider or keep in mind the population and the designe should be created.

*It should be maintained well

*There should be no space left empty.
*By keeping it non polluting, we can keep the environment also safe.

== Author's perspective ==
''I have done my bachelor in Civil Engineering. I have chosen Saroornagar Lake so that I can make myself comfortable to landscape architecture.

== Rationale: Why is this case interesting? ==

''Saroornagar Lake is 387 years old lake which was created for agricultural and drinking purpose.

* ''Why did you select it?''
* ''Is it exemplary for a specific theme or a problem?''
* ''In how far does it relate to your life?''

== Author's perspective ==
''From which professional background/perspective are your documenting this case?''
