'''Lagoons''': 2 artificial lagoons

'''Wildlife''': In the north lagoon live different kind of birds such as Chilean Flamingo, Black-necked Swan, Koi Fish and the followings have migrated to the park: Great Egret (Garza blanca) and White Winged Coot(Tagua)

'''CULTURAL FEATURES'''

The aim of the design was to provide a mix of public and administrative activity. In the park area are public activities in general and also administrative in the Municipality Building. The park seeks to preserve some native Chilean plant species and so these were included in the design of the park. Different park features are:
*'''Ramps of access''', which joins the street and the park (for reasons of privacy and visual continuity, the park is under level of the street).
*'''Central esplanade'''; the place where the most of activities occur. In this area is the pedestrian way to go along the park and the place to rest in the lawn or play in the playground, as well as special areas for children and pets. Also it is 2 lagoons the north one is reserved for the wild life by hosting different types of birds and fishes and the south one is reserved to play with toy boats. The mass-activities has its place also in a little amphitheatre and a esplanade beside the Municipality Building. The spiritual life is placed in a little oratory situated between the esplanade and the building.
*'''The slope''': which is a visual and acoustic screen that protect the park of the highway (and separates the park of the river) and create a lookout along the park.

'''OVERALL CHARACTER'''

The "Parque Bicentenario" (Bicentennial Park) is situated on the shore of the only river that crosses Santiago, and in the past few years has turned from an empty piece of land (which is part of a Metropolitan Park zoning in Santiago) to a beautiful and peaceful park.
This park has become in a good quality green area in Santiago with 24.000 visitors per year. It under level street design allows privacy and works as a refuge and also facing the Metropolitan park, which is a hill inside the city, gives to this park a sensation of continuity.

'''HISTORY and DYNAMICS'''

Before being intervened this zone was a vulnerable point in the city between a highway and a residential area (Despite being one of the more wealthy residential areas in the city) this condition meant that the rest of the land around it was affected for this non-use area. Nowadays we can see the results here, and see this park as an example of how residual areas of a city can be joined to the city and also give value to a zone.

<gallery caption="CONTEXT" widths="150px" heights="150px" perrow="4">
</gallery>

== What are the objectives of your design? ==

We have a good foundation to work with and we would like build upon this by trying to:

* '''Connect''' the park to its surrounding park areas, like the Metropolitan Park area etc. This will help provide a good view to the hill and create connection solutions between ecological zones and human activities.
* Trying to '''make the river as a part of our park''', or at least connect it to the park. This will serve an ecological purpose, by attracting more animal and bird species to the park and also explore its aesthetic potential. In this sense the river would be used like lagoons too, making it possible to use water as an ornamental element.
*If, we are able to connect the river to the park well, we could even look at the '''river as a resource''', be it for irrigation or energy. Including the shore of the river along its path will help connect the park with the rest of the park system along the river, in this way the design will join the river, Bicentennial Park and the rest of the city in a '''park system'''.
*'''Design green bridges''' to connect the Bicentennial park with the hill, in this way the visual connection achieve to become in real connection, allowing to visitors traverse the river and walking from one side of the city to the other.

All of this would in turn encourage the '''interaction between the park and the urban fabric'''. This way '''urban green corridors''' could be introduced in Santiago and these could be used for social activities and of course, make it a more sustainable environment.

== Analytical drawings ==
''Please add four analytical sketches/drawings (or montages/schemes) of your case. Every group member needs to contribute at least one drawing.''

== Projective drawings ==
''Please add four projective sketches/drawings (or montages/schemes), of course with an emphasis on planting design/vegetation aspects. Every group member needs to contribute at least one drawing representing his/her individual ideas.''

<gallery caption="Projective Drawings " widths="150px" heights="150px" perrow="5">

</gallery>

== Design Synthesis ==
''Please analyse the individual approaches presented so far and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses (you may use the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SWOT_analysis SWOT]analysis model). Try to create a synthesis and represent it with a plan and some sketches. You can still use drawings/sketches.''

<gallery caption="Design Synthesis Drawings" widths="150px" heights="150px" perrow="4">
== Summary of the collaborative process ==
''Please reflect on your collaborative design process. Which potentials have you encountered? What was most difficult? What does collaborative design mean for you? (approx 150 words).''

== Image Gallery ==
''You may add a series of images/photos in addition to the sketches/drawings''

<gallery caption="CONTEXT" widths="150px" heights="150px" perrow="4">
</gallery>

== Analytical drawings ==
''Please add four analytical sketches/drawings (or montages/schemes) of your case. Every group member needs to contribute at least one drawing.''

<gallery caption="Analytical Drawings " widths="150px" heights="150px" perrow="5">
== Projective drawings ==
''Please add four projective sketches/drawings (or montages/schemes), of course with an emphasis on planting design/vegetation aspects. Every group member needs to contribute at least one drawing representing his/her individual ideas.''

<gallery caption="Projective Drawings " widths="150px" heights="150px" perrow="5">

== Design Synthesis ==

<gallery caption="Design Synthesis Drawings" widths="150px" heights="150px" perrow="4">
== Summary of the collaborative process ==
''Please reflect on your collaborative design process. Which potentials have you encountered? What was most difficult? What does collaborative design mean for you? (approx 150 words).''

== Image Gallery ==
''You may add a series of images/photos in addition to the sketches/drawings''

splitting the slope means that we can use the river inside the park, as lagoons, and at the same time the lagoons can be part in the walking along the park, because we can design it as an humid platform that allow people get wet their feet. The slope becomes as a system of secondary hill, that maintains quality as lookout with Chilean palms, but integrates the rest of the metropolitan park in a real form and not only as a visual connection. Moreover, we can use the slope to mark boundaries and to separate the park from the street.
About the street and the highway, following the same spirit of the slope, this design proposes integrate the secondary street in the urban fabric and plunge the highway in a tunnel.
Grass areas, the proposal is to surround the area with high trees, in order to give shadows in east-west direction.
The design maintains the original proposal of the platform-street that allows enclosures under Street area.
About the ecological impact, I think my proposal improves the current one because now it can give a more natural environment to different species that lives in the river, the shore river and the hill in front of the park, so moreover of the species that includes the original design, this park will be able to receive more species and bugs of the zone.

</gallery>

[[Features of design:]]
The design aims to be a pole of physical and administrative activity, in the park are the public activities in general and the administrative one(including onto the design of the park) is in the municipality building. Moreover this park seeks to preserve some native species of Chile, including it as part of the design. the park has three different areas: (See image park areas)

a) Ramps of access, which joins the street and the park (because of the searching of privacy and visual continuity is under level of the street) under the uneven ground is the equipment program, so the land turn itself as an architecture program.

b) Central esplanade, which is the place where the most of activities occur. In this area is the pedestrian way to go along the park and the place to rest in the grass or play in the playground, as well as for children and pets. Also it is 2 lagoons the north one is reserved for the wild life by hosting different types of birds and fishes and the south one is reserved to play with boats (toys). The mass-activities has its place also in a little amphitheater and a esplanade beside the municipality building. The spiritual life is placed in a little oratory situated between the esplanade and the building.

== What are the objectives of your design? ==

''Please give a short written argumentation (not more than 150 words). It is ok if you have different or even contradicting objectives within your group. Just make it explicit at the beginning of your process ''

Involving the river into the park design in order to use more the hydric source and explode its aesthetic potential. In this sense the river would be used like lagoons too, avoiding to use drinking water to fill the lagoons, and then that the water was used as ornamental element can be used for watering plants. Moreover, joining the river we can benefit the ecology of the park.
Including the shore of the river along its path, in order to connect the park with the rest of the park system along the river, in this way the design will join the river, Bicentennial Park and the rest of the city en a park system.
And design green bridges to connect the Bicentennial park with the hill, in this way the visual connection achieve to become in real connection, allowing to visitors traverse the river and walking from one side of the city to the other.

The spiritual life is placed in a little oratory situated between the esplanade and the building.

c) The slope: which is a visual and acoustic screen that protect the park of the highway (and separates the park of the river) and create a lookout along the park.
